The woodpecker, part of the Pacidae family, is closely related to the passerine family and has 200 different species. The Woodpeckers are arboreal birds (animals that are known to usually live in trees) and are distributed throughout the continents except the Madagascar, New Zealand, Australia and the extreme polar regions.

The Woodpecker suffers largely, from habitat losses from humans cutting and chopping down horrendous amounts of forests. The woodpeckers are known to live in woodlands, savannahs, scrublands, bamboo forests, grasslands and even deserts.

Air pollution affects the Woodpecker the most as it is a very, vital factor as the poor air quality due to smog and noxious gases can have a terrible, horrifying effect on birds and statistics show over 2 million birds every year die because of air pollution.
